The Community Responsibility and Voluntary Work Committee at the Applied College, Najran University, organized an awareness lecture entitled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Health Sector,” delivered by Prof. Ibrahim Abdulrab Al-Qubati to university students and members of the local community, with the aim of highlighting the role of modern technologies in developing health services and improving the quality of care provided to patients.
The lecture reviewed the main fields of AI applications in the healthcare sector, classifying them into four key areas: medical imaging and diagnosis, patient care, research and development, and health management, while explaining the most important practical applications in each area and their role in supporting healthcare professionals and enabling more accurate and faster medical decision-making.
During the session, emphasis was placed on the use of algorithms to analyze medical images for the early detection of strokes and cancerous tumors, the role of AI in verifying medical prescriptions, prioritizing patients, and providing personalized care based on individual health data, in addition to its role in discovering and designing new drugs and studying genes to predict the risk of developing certain chronic diseases.
The lecture also addressed AI applications in predicting health status through surgical robots, wearable devices for round-the-clock monitoring of vital signs, and telemedicine services, as well as its use in health management via data-driven pricing, market research, automation of administrative processes, and deploying chatbots to serve patients and detect fraud in health claims.
At the conclusion of the lecture, the Community Responsibility and Voluntary Work Committee stressed the importance of students keeping pace with rapid developments in AI applications in healthcare, and leveraging these technologies to support their academic and professional paths, while emphasizing ethical considerations and the responsible use of such tools to positively impact quality of life and health services in society.
